Organic Black Beans

Dense and earthy Organic Black Beans are a staple in our pantries because they go with so many types of cuisines. Make a large batch and freeze them in smaller portions until needed! Black beans are low in fat, high in fiber, and contain protein, calcium and other vital nutrients.

Cooking Instructions

Soak 1 cup black beans in 3 cups water for at least 8 hours. Drain and rinse. Add the beans the 3 cups fresh water or stock to a medium pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours. Leave uncovered for firmer beans or partially covered for creamier beans. Add liquid as needed to keep beans submerged throughout cooking time. Drain, and season as desired.

Black Bean Blender Brownies

Makes 9 servings

  • 1 3/4 cup prepared Farmer Direct Organic Black Beans, drained and rinsed
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9x9-inch baking dish with parchment paper. Combine all ingredients except chocolate chips in a blender. Blend until smooth, and pour evenly into baking dish. Top with chocolate chips. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool completely before serving, about 30 minutes.
