Organic Chickpeas

Organic Chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans) are a perfect protein for vegetarian curries, hummus, falafel, wraps, and other Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes. Chickpeas are a good source of iron, fiber and potassium, too!

Cooking Instructions

Soak 1 cup chickpeas in 3 cups water for at least 8 hours. Drain and rinse. Add chickpeas and 3 cups fresh water or stock to a medium pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and summer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or to desired doneness. Add liquid as needed to keep chickpeas submerged during cooking. Drain and season as desired.

Crunchy Roasted Chickpeas

Makes 2 to 4 servings

  • 1 cup prepared Farmer Direct Organic Chickpeas, drained and cooled
  • 1 Tbsp. coconut oil
  • 2 tsp. seasoning of choice: try sea salt and fresh ground pepper, smoked paprika and cumin, or cinnamon and sugar

Spread prepared chickpeas on a kitchen towel and allow them to air dry for at least 1 hour. Heat oven to 400 degrees. In a medium bowl, toss chickpeas with coconut oil and seasoning until evenly coated. Spread chickpeas evenly on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake for 35 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Allow to cool completely before enjoying.
